A slowcation is all about traveling at a slower pace, allowing you to connect more deeply with the places you visit. With a small group size, fewer hotel changes and transfers, and more time at each destination, our slowcations are designed to allow travelers to experience a destination beyond the typical tourist highlights. Instead of coming home needing a vacation after your vacation, you’ll return having truly gotten to know where you’ve been — And feeling like you experienced it, not just checked it off a list.
On our slowcations, you’ll stay in just one or two thoughtfully chosen “base” locations. This gives you the chance to immerse yourself in the local culture and experience the place in-depth which can be hard to do on traditional tours that hop from place to place. Accommodations are selected for their charm, comfort, and location. Whether it’s a noble estate in Portugal, a historic countryside hotel in Italy, or a château in the heart of Normandy, France, your stay isn’t just where you sleep; it’s part of the experience!
Most days include excursions and activities to help you discover the surrounding region but at least one day is free for you to enjoy at your own pace. You might choose to venture out on your own, join fellow travelers for an optional outing, or simply relax — It’s completely up to you! After all, it’s your trip! Throughout the slowcation, a dedicated host is on hand to offer local tips and suggestions such as a charming café that only locals know about or a hidden gem well of the tourist trail.
Because sometimes, the most memorable moments are often the unplanned ones! When you’re not rushing from one place to the next, you have the chance to notice the little things: the smell of fresh bread from a nearby bakery, a friendly exchange with a local shopkeeper in broken English, or a golden sunset at a quiet cafe. Slowcations create space for these moments; ones that packed itineraries often leave no room for.
Additionally, many of our travelers say their favorite memories aren’t the bucketlist sites but the moments in between: shared laughter over a meal, late-night conversations with new friends, or an easy-going morning coffee with a view.
Our slowcations are ideal for travelers who prefer a more relaxed travel style over a fast-paced itinerary. They’re perfect for curious travelers who value meaningful experiences, prefer not to rush from one landmark to the next, and enjoy a bit of spontaneity. If the idea of lingering over breakfast, wandering down an unplanned path, or discovering a neighborhood café sounds more appealing than checking off a to-do list of tourist sites, then a slowcation is for you!
Most of our travelers are in their late 30s to early 70s (open to ages 18 and up), and we have a strong community of solo travelers. Whether you’re exploring on your own, with a partner, or alongside a few friends, our small groups offer a friendly, laid-back atmosphere. Come with curiosity and an adventurous spirit, and you will discover beautiful destinations as well as meaningful connections!
