I’m a single traveler. Will I be charged a single supplement?

There is no single supplement for this trip. However, some rooms are reserved for solo occupancy, while others are for double occupancy and are shared.

If you would prefer a single room throughout the trip, you can choose the room category designated for solo travelers. If you select a shared room, we will try our best to pair you with another traveler of the same gender. Please note that roommate pairing is only available for double-occupancy rooms.

IMPORTANT: If you are in a shared room and we are unable to find a roommate for you, we will contact you to offer a refund or give you the option to pay for the second person’s spot in your room. We will contact you 120 days before the trip if we do not find a roommate to pair you with.

  1. Smile policy
We welcome all kinds of travelers and the group dynamic of each trip is different but also part of what makes the trip so amazing. You should be able to treat everyone in the group as well as the locals with respect and kindness.

    No complainers
Our goal is for everyone to have fun and a trip of a lifetime. On our trips, you should be able to let the small stuff go and exercise flexibility when things do not go according to plan. If you are a traveler who finds fault with everything and complains about the little things, then our trips are not right for you. Come with an open mind and adventurous spirit, and you will have the trip of a lifetime!

    Cancellation policy
For any tour, including chartered cruises or boat accommodations of more than 3 nights, no refunds can be provided once the tour is confirmed. A tour is considered confirmed once the minimum number of bookings is reached, and we will notify you in writing when this happens. After this confirmation, no refunds, credits, or changes can be made. Please refer to our cancellation policy for more information.

    Compulsory insurance
Travel insurance is compulsory for this trip due to the increased, inherent risk involved with being on a boat. Please see the Insurance tab for more information.

    Greece is not like home
You will be sleeping on a boat for the entire trip so expect things to be different than what you are used to back home and remember that it is all a part of traveling and experiencing new places! For example, water pressure, bed and pillow firmness, and room temperature may be different than what you are used to back home. Also, Wifi may be spotty, slow, or even unavailable in certain remote areas.

    Rough waters
The waters are typically smooth during our trips but Mother Nature is unpredictable and there may be high winds or rough waters. Ferries and boat rides are subject to rescheduling or cancellation if the weather and water conditions are unsafe by the captains and local authorities.

    Cruise manager
Your cruise manager and the boat crew will help you have an unforgettable experience and can answer questions and offer suggestions. They will always try to go above and beyond to help you have an amazing trip but are not your personal assistants. Travelers should exercise a certain level of self-sufficiency and independence on our trips. We also suggest tipping those who went out of their way to help you, especially the boat crew who work tirelessly to make sure you are safe and your trip goes smoothly.

    Semi-independent trip
Our trips are designed for the semi-independent traveler. If you choose not to participate in any of the included activities, you are responsible for organizing your own activities. Your cruise manager can offer recommendations for alternative activities but it is up to you to make reservations for extra activities. Additionally, you are free to arrive before or depart after the trip but pre-/post-cruise plans, accommodation, transport, etc. are yours to arrange. We do not offer assistance with any plans outside of the trip dates.

  2. This trip is a low level of physical difficulty depending on your physical fitness.

The boat has 3 narrow flights of stairs. You must be able to walk up and down the stairs unassisted as the boat is still/moving to participate in this trip.

To participate in this trip you should be able to:

    • Walk 1 – 2 miles throughout the day, up/down stairs, over unpaved or cobblestone surfaces with/without an incline, and on paths with rough terrain.
    • Be comfortable on your feet for up to 4 hours walking and standing, indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
    • Carry your luggage from the taxi/van to the boat and your rooms.*
    • Get in and out of a boat without assistance even on rough waters.

*NOTE: There will be someone to carry your luggage to your room on the yacht. If someone takes your luggage to your room, we ask that you tip accordingly.

  3. Each group usually consists of 36 travelers. We prefer small boat cruises because, based on our experience, guests on large cruise ships are less easily able to integrate into society and generally have less authentic contact with the locals.

A smaller boat also means that participants will receive more personal treatment from the cruise manager and crew who can more thoroughly attend to the needs of each person.

  4. Most of our travelers are in their late 30s to late 60s/early 70s and most are solo travelers. Generally, we get a good mix of diverse people and every trip is unique thanks to the group dynamic.

The minimum age on our trips is 18.

Everyone is welcome on our trips; male/female, LGBTQIA+/straight, and solos/couples.

Check out pictures from our previous Greece land trips to get an idea of the group dynamic by clicking HERE.

  5. Currently, Australian, United Kingdom, Canadian, and United States passport holders do not need a visa if traveling to Greece for less than 90 days.

If you are not a passport holder from one of the countries mentioned above, please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for information on visas and travel to Greece.

You may also be required to show proof of exit from Greece in the form of a departure flight ticket.

As a general rule, passports should have at least six months of validity when traveling internationally. Most countries will not permit a traveler to enter their country unless the passport is set to expire at least six months after the final day of travel.

  6. While most daily activities are already included in the trip price, you will have some free time and the cruise manager can recommend and/or help arrange any activity that might interest you. Optional activities are not included in the trip cost and are at your own expense.

  7. Airport pick-up and drop-off are not included.

We recommend arriving in Athens at least one day early and staying one days later in case of potential travel delays and ensure you don’t miss boarding the yacht on Day 1 or your flight back home.

On Day 1, a transfer from Athens to Lavrion Pier is included. Pick-up will be from 2 hotels in Athens’ main tourist area. We will give you the exact names and locations of these hotels after booking. You can either stay at one of these hotels or take a taxi to one of them. If you are not at the meeting point on time, you will be responsible for arranging your own transfer to the pier.

On Day 8, a transfer from Lavrion Pier to Athens is also included. We will drop you off at 2 hotels in Athens’ main tourist area. We will give you the exact name and location of these hotels after booking. You can stay at one of these hotels or take a taxi to your post-trip accommodation.

  8. The official currency of Greece is the euro (EUR).

Find out the live mid-market rate for your currency by using a currency converter online.

  9. We strongly recommend that you use ATMs while in Greece as they usually offer the best exchange rates. The easiest way is to pull money out from the ATM at the airport upon arrival and throughout your trip. It is always a good idea to carry some cash on you in case your bank puts a hold on your ATM card.

You can usually find ATMs at banks, supermarkets, petrol stations, shopping malls, airports, and post offices.

It is important to tell your bank and/or credit card company that you will be using your card in Greece. Some banks block transactions in foreign countries or currencies if they haven’t been forewarned about your travel plans.

Since euros are a popular currency, most banks in your hometown/city will exchange your local currency for euros. This a very convenient way to get euros, but be aware that some banks might not have favorable exchange rates or charge additional fees to exchange. It is best to check with your bank to see what fees are associated with exchanging money in your hometown.

  10. Credit and debit cards are widely used in most towns and cities in Greece. However, at small, local businesses such as coffee shops and bars, cash is the main method of payment. Therefore, it is best to carry cash in case you come across a place that does not take card payments.

You can pay for your bar bill, spa treatments, etc. on the boat by card.

It’s important to tell your bank and/or credit card company that you will be using your card in Greece. Some banks block transactions in foreign countries or currencies if they haven’t been forewarned about your travel plans.

  11. Greece does not have a strong tipping culture. In restaurants, taxis, and for personal services, all tips are at your discretion. If you do decide to tip, around 10-20% of the total bill is appreciated. Tipping is usually cash only.

    • Boat crew: 300-350 EUR split among all crew members in cash at the end of your trip.

For more information about tipping, please refer to our blog about tipping.

  12. Based on past travelers’ feedback, an estimated amount to bring or have access to is between 500 – 800 euros. WE HIGHLY ADVISE BRINGING OR HAVING ACCESS TO MORE MONEY THAN YOU EXPECT TO SPEND IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY.

As most components of your trip have been prepaid, you will only need money for some lunches and dinners and any optional activities you may want to participate in. If you are an avid shopper or enjoy nights out, these costs are at your own expense.

Like most travel destinations, Greece is not lacking in unique items for purchase. Past travelers have said it was their favorite country for shopping so pack light! You will be visiting a lot of fantastic places that offer unique items. Remember that most places that offer high-end products will often accept credit/debit cards.

  13. Most smartphones work in Greece and when using your phone overseas, be sure to check with your provider to get informed about data and call roaming prices. When you land in Greece, you will usually get a message from your provider that will give you the price of data, calls, and texts in that country. See the example below:

Welcome to Greece! Your plan gives you unlimited data at up to 2G speeds and texts at no extra cost. Calls at 20 cents/min. Want our fastest data and unlimited calls? Get an International Pass for just $5/day.

You may consider contacting your service provider to learn about what kind of international plans they offer for calls, texts, and data.

  14. The boat has free Wifi but it may be slow, spotty, or absent at times. The restaurants in the islands’ towns usually offer Wifi. Keep in mind that the internet may not be as fast as you are used to and could be spotty if not absent in more remote areas. Be prepared to ‘disconnect’ when sailing and traveling in remote areas.

  15. In Greece, the most common outlet fits European plugs and is also known as the standard “Euro” outlet (see picture below). Greece operates on 230V and 50Hz. Converters and/or adapters might be necessary for your electronic devices.

  16. Even if you travel in the summertime, bring warm clothes to layer for cooler evenings on the boat.

Below are a few things that we suggest bringing to make your trip more comfortable:

    • Lightweight clothes that dry quickly
    • Sunglasses/hat
    • Sunscreen (biodegradable if possible)
    • Swimsuits (we recommend at least 2)
    • Water shoes (for pebble/rocky beaches)
    • Rash guard (for snorkeling to protect from sun, cold, sea lice, jellyfish, etc.)
    • Comfortable walking shoes (with good tread & ankle support)
    • Cardigan/light jacket
    • Windbreaker
    • Small, secure, across-the-shoulder day bag/money belt
    • Umbrella (for sun & rain)
    • Portable fan (handheld)
    • Flashlight
    • Flip flops/sandals
    • Seasickness medication (if needed)
    • Prescription/over-the-counter medication (if needed)
    • First aid kit (travel-size)
    • Hand sanitizer
    • Washcloth
    • Wet wipes
    • Refillable water bottle
    • Adapters, converters, chargers, cables for electronics (bring 2 or more just in case!)
    • Shampoo, soap, conditioner

*There will be hairdryers in the rooms on the boat. Beach towels are also provided.

  17. Since most of this trip will be on a boat, there are no laundry facilities. Please make sure to bring enough clothing for the trip in the event that you are not able to clean it.

  18. Breakfast will be served daily and is buffet-style. Tea and coffee will also be served at breakfast and will be available all day at the coffee and cake station.

Daily wellness sessions such as yoga, pilates, aqua pilates, and meditation are offered on the boat by the dedicated wellness coach on board.

You will also have free access to the mini gym and jacuzzi on board the boat.

The boat provides free use of paddleboards, transparent kayaks, snorkel equipment, and fishing equipment.

Daily cleaning of your cabin is also included.

  19. Yes, we can. When making your reservation, please notify us of your specific requests such as gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, etc. Alternative options will always be possible throughout the trip although options might be limited.

  20. Most areas of Greece that you will visit on this trip experience fewer crimes compared to bigger US and European cities. As with any travel destination, it is important to be aware of your surroundings with a secure over-the-shoulder day pack that closes tightly. This way, your belongings won’t easily become the property of any purse snatchers or pickpockets.

In larger cities such as Athens, pick-pocketing is much more common. We advise not putting anything in your back pockets, especially if you are on a crowded bus/train or at a crowded tourist spot as thieves tend to target these areas.

  21. Tap water in Greece is safe to drink but it does have a ‘taste’ so many people prefer bottled water. Water is provided at no cost on the boat.

  22. Please review the CDC Health Information for Travelers Website before traveling to Greece to see any recommended vaccinations.

If you suffer from pre-existing medical conditions or are concerned about what vaccinations may be right for you, we strongly advise that you visit a medical professional or your personal physician before your trip.

  23. We offer private trips to Greece depending on the size of the group and availability.

Please reach out to us at info@globe-drifters.com for more information.

Visa
