Getting a Cuban visa is required for many travelers to enter Cuba, including those from the US. Most do not need to fill out an application form or send your passport to a consulate or embassy though. In this blog, you’ll read all about how to get a Cuban visa as a US traveler.
Most travelers to Cuba will need a visa to enter the country. These are the countries that do not require visas to enter Cuba. If you do not see your country on this list, then you will need a visa to visit Cuba. Travelers from the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia all need visas to travel to Cuba. Otherwise, we suggest contacting your nearest Cuban embassy or consulate to ask if you need a visa for Cuba.
The easiest option for US travelers is the Cuban e-visa* and we recommend obtaining it through Cuba Visa Services. The e-visa is valid for up to 90 days of travel on the island. It is best to purchase it before you arrive at the airport to save yourself time and hassle.
*Paper visas will be accepted until June 30, 2025. After this date, e-visas will be the only form of visa available for most travelers to Cuba.
If you’re not flying from the US, it’s best to contact your airline and/or the nearest Cuban embassy or consulate to find out how to get a visa for travel to Cuba.
NOTE: Everyone on our 9-day trips will be traveling under the OFAC category “Support for the Cuban People”. This is usually the category for many travelers to Cuba.
The cost for a Cuban e-visa is $50 + a $35 USD processing fee for travelers flying to Cuba on a US airline.
Once you have filled out the required information at Cuba Visa Services’ website and paid, you will receive your e-visa by email. It is important to save this email as you will need it to enter your e-visa number in the mandatory D’Viajeros Advance Traveler Information form that can only be completed 7 days or less before your arrival in Cuba. Check out our blog on how to complete the mandatory D’Viajeros form.
